More than half a million votes cast in annual Credit Unions for Kids promotion

SALT LAKE CITY – The ballot box is overflowing with votes for children’s hospitals across the U.S. in the annual Credit Unions for Kids Vote for Miracles promotion.

After three weeks of voting and more than 600,000 votes cast, Hurley Children’s Hospital in Flint, MI, emerged as the top-vote getter for the second year in a row. With the win, Hurley Children’s Hospital will receive a $50,000 donation on behalf of America’s credit unions courtesy of CO-OP Financial Services and CU Direct.

Members from more than half of America’s 5,800 credit unions voted for their local CMN Hospital.

Rounding out the top five vote-getters are Mercy Children’s Hospital in Toledo, OH, El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI and Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville, PA. Each of these hospitals will receive $20,000, $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 donations respectively.

“We congratulate all the credit unions and hospitals who participated in Vote for Miracles this year,” said John Lauck, president and CEO, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “It is heartening to see what the credit union industry does to ensure the kids treated at our member hospitals get the care they need.”

Several celebrities even joined the Vote for Miracles effort by posting on social media, including Lady Antebellum, Mark Ruffalo, Chelsea Clinton, Marie Osmond, Miss America 2018 Cara Mund, Bill Engvall, Alli Simpson and Mark Wills.

With more than 600,000 votes cast, the 2017 Vote for Miracles promotion more than doubled the 2016 vote count.

The 2017 Vote for Miracles promotion ran from Nov. 28 – Dec. 19.
