Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Announces Annual Root Beer Float Day Fundraiser

Marriott International Hotels will host root beer float stands across the United States and Canada

SALT LAKE CITY – Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals will receive donations from the annual Root Beer Float Day fundraiser hosted by Marriott International.  During the week of August 6, hotels throughout the United States and Canada will sell root beer floats with the proceeds going directly to local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the area. Root Beer Float Day is a nod to Marriott’s beginnings when company founder, Bill Marriott, Sr., and his wife Alice opened two root beer stands in Washington, D.C., in the 1920s.

This year, additional brands have been added to the organization’s fundraising partners including Westin Hotels and Resorts, Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, W Hotels and Resorts and Aloft Hotels. The addition of these brands provides more opportunities for guests to support local children’s hospitals.

“We believe Marriott is poised to do more than ever to help sick and injured kids get the care they deserve,” said John Lauck, president and CEO, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Marriott associates and guests are among the most passionate fundraisers we have.”

As CMN Hospitals’ longest-standing corporate partner, Marriott associates and guests have raised $115 million over 34 years.  The company fundraises through a variety of events and activities.

The Miss America Organization has partnered with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to raise funds and awareness for children’s hospitals throughout the United States. Miss America 2017, Savvy Shields, will join associates at the Marriott International headquarters in Bethesda, MD, on August 7, and at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC on August 8. She will help serve root beer floats and encourage associates and guests to donate to the area’s local CMN Hospital, Children’s National Health System.

“As the longest standing corporate partner of CMN Hospitals, we are honored to host our 2017 Root Beer Float Days.  For the past 34 years, our amazing guests and associates have raised an astounding $115 million dollars for local children’s hospitals.  This year, we celebrate our 90th year anniversary at Marriott.  It all started back in 1927 at a small 9- seat root beer stand and our Root Beer Float Days allow us to step back in time to celebrate and to support our CMN Hospitals partnership.  From our corporate level, to our individual hotels that are hosting Root Beer Float Day events, we are all committed to our Spirit to Serve culture,” said Rob Steigerwald, Chief Operations Officer of The Americas, Western Region & CMN Hospitals Board of Governors.

Marriott International is one of many companies that have partnered with CMN Hospitals to raise money for sick and injured kids. Data from the 2017 Cone Communications CSR Study show 92 percent of consumers have a more positive image of a company that supports a social or environmental issue. The study also found that 88 percent of consumers would be more loyal to a company that engages in CSR activities.
