Salt Lake City, UT — Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals today announced the retirement of two distinguished network leaders: Kurt D. Newman, MD, who served on the Board of Trustees since 2021, and Sue McConnaha, who served on the Strategy Committee since 2023.
Dr. Newman, former president and chief executive officer of Children’s National Hospital, in Washington D.C., brought more than four decades of experience in pediatric medicine and health policy to the organization’s board. From 2021 until his departure in July 2025, he served on the Strategy Committee, providing valuable insight and guidance during a period of growth and innovation for CMN Hospitals.
McConnaha, who retired as Vice President Community Relations, Diversity Equity and Inclusion for Costco Wholesale Corporation, joined the Strategy Committee in May 2023, bringing her expertise in operations and organizational strategy. Her contributions strengthened the committee’s work in shaping the future of the network and its ability to better serve children’s hospitals across North America.
Aimee J. Daily, Ph.D., President & CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, expressed gratitude for their service:
“We are deeply thankful to Dr. Newman and Ms. McConnaha for their leadership, wisdom, and commitment to our mission. Their dedication has made a lasting impact on our organization, and their legacies will continue to inspire us as we bring people together to raise money for children’s healthcare in local communities.”
Reflecting on his service, Dr. Newman said:
“It has been an honor to serve on the Board of Directors of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Throughout my career, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of ensuring every child has access to the highest quality care, and CMN Hospitals embodies that mission. I am proud to have contributed in a small way to such an extraordinary organization.”

McConnaha added:
“Being part of the Strategy Committee allowed me to see the incredible impact CMN Hospitals has on children, families, and communities. I’m grateful to have been able to support the important work being done to strengthen children’s hospitals, and I look forward to watching the continued success of this mission.”
